So you want to be a part of Goulais Fire & Rescue?

Thank you for taking the time to consider becoming a volunteer firefighter.  This volunteer position will be different from any other that you have had before.  Being a member of Goulais Fire & Rescue takes a lot of time and commitment.  We respond to about 190 emergency calls per year and train once per week.  We also participate in special events such as Community Days and Fire Prevention Week.

Goulais Fire and Rescue Volunteers was founded over 30 years ago, and its members have worked for countless hours to build this organization into what it is today.  We are a very proud group, and hope that our new members will carry on that tradition.

Unlike many other organizations we cannot offer a high paying salary and good benefit package.  We also have developed the Firefighter Retention Program, which reimburses our members for their out of pocket expenses (gas). Everything else that you give to this organization is free of charge.  In return for your time we offer you hours of valuable training and the opportunity to serve your community.  All of the training costs are paid for by the Fire Department.  We also provide our members with all of the required equipment to do the job right.

Maybe fighting fires isn’t for you.  We have other opportunities within our organization that could be better suited to your needs.  We are always looking for more help with delivering fire prevention information and operating our special events.

Goulais Fire and Rescue is a great place to be a member, but it is not a social club.  If you are just looking for a night out, this is not the place!  There are many other volunteer agencies that can offer you that kind of environment.  If you want to make a difference and save lives, you might be just who we are looking for.  Read on to see the expectations of our membership.
